The Experience of a Home Swap

Posted by

Today’s guest post comes to us from Anjali. She gives a new perspective on where to stay for your travels.

There are several advantages to swapping your home while traveling or going on vacation. You’ll save money, get to experience travel in a different way, meet locals, and discover corners that perhaps you wouldn’t otherwise find. Sound interesting? So how is it, that the concept of home exchange is still new to travelers?

Swapping homes belongs to the philosophy of sharing, rather than owning, which sounds intimidating in terms of privacy. Some people might think that having someone you don’t personally know in your home is a little intimidating, but when it comes to home swap, that isn’t the case.

When somebody swaps their home, they want to make sure that they trust the people they are inviting to stay at their house. Because of the constant communication between both parties, strangers become acquaintances and could even become friends. One must rest assured before they leave their home, and the best way to trust people is to get to know them and use different means of communication to put to rest all doubts: from email, to Facebook, to Skype, to SMS… whatever it takes. And once you’re assured, it’s time to travel and experience a new way to see the world!

Home swap is apt for young couples, families, and retired people. The advantage of walking into a house after a long day, or the feeling of just wanting to relax in a home, is exclusive to home swap. With home exchange, you’re at a home away from home. And not only that, you establish such a nice bond with your exchange partners that even after the exchange, the contact remains. Strangers become friends, travel becomes comfortable and cheap, and the spirit of community and trust grows.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to live in a balanced world between local and global where everybody trusts each other? Swapping your home while you travel is a way to get to know the world a little better. Why not give it a try?
