Don’t you hate it when you return home from a summer vacation and everyone raves about the awesome weather you missed? That’s why it’s best to travel during winter — you escape the cold and make everyone back home jealous. If you get the chance, be sure to make one of these hot spots your next destination.
Sydney, Australia
Average high temperature in February: 78.4 degrees Fahrenheit
About the time everyone in the states starts to wear long pants and shirts, Aussies are breaking out their bathing suits. There is no shortage of outdoor activities in Sydney. If you’re in the mood to sunbathe and surf, be sure to visit the infamous Bondi beach. The Rocks, Sydney’s historic district, is great to visit if you want good eating and market shopping. Located at the foot of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, you also get amazing views of the harbor and Opera House from The Rocks. If you get your thrills from risk taking, sign up to climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Not for the faint of heart, the bridge climb was rated by Lonely Planet as a top ten biggest adrenaline rush.
Ambergris Caye, Belize
Average high temperature in February: 80 degrees Fahrenheit
If you seek a relaxing, tropical vacation, Belize’s largest island of Ambergris Caye is a great place to visit. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, visitors to Ambergris Caye enjoy beaches and a slow-paced, “barefoot” lifestyle where the vehicle of choice is a golf cart over cobblestone streets. You can enjoy the restaurants and boutique shops of the town San Pedro. However, even as the busiest town of Ambergris Caye, San Pedro is still laid back and quiet. Belize is home to some of the best snorkeling in the world, and Ambergris Caye is close to world-renowned snorkel sites like Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley.
Key West, Florida
Average high temperature in February: 75.9 degrees Fahrenheit
If you want to stay in the states, you can’t get any farther south than Key West. With a range of water sport opportunities such as snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing, to name a few, you can spend your entire trip enjoying the weather. Be sure to take time to tour Ernest Hemingway’s gorgeous home and gardens (and be on the lookout for his six-toed cats!). Also eat a meal at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville — Key West is the restaurant’s original location. As one of the US’ quirkiest towns, there is no shortage of activities in Key West!
